Eric Dane Diagnosed with ALS, Plans Return to ‘Euphoria’ Set
Actor Eric Dane, renowned for his roles in Grey’s Anatomy and HBO’s Euphoria, has publicly disclosed his diagnosis with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurodegenerative disease. Despite this challenging news, the 52-year-old actor remains committed to his career and is set to resume filming for Euphoria‘s third season on April 14, 2025.
In a statement to People, Dane expressed gratitude for his family’s support, stating, “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.” He and his wife, actress Rebecca Gayheart, have two daughters, Billie Beatrice and Georgia Geraldine. The couple, who married in 2004, recently reconciled after Gayheart filed to dismiss their divorce petition filed in 2018.
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to muscle weakness and loss of motor functions. While there is no known cure, some individuals live for years following diagnosis.
Dane’s announcement has garnered support from fans and colleagues alike. He has requested privacy for his family during this time but remains optimistic about continuing his work in the entertainment industry.
Euphoria creator Sam Levinson has described the upcoming season as a “film noir” exploring moral integrity in a corrupt world, with a storyline that includes a time jump. Dane will reprise his role as Cal Jacobs, alongside returning cast members Zendaya, Colman Domingo, and Jacob Elordi.
The actor’s resilience and dedication to his craft continue to inspire, as he faces this new chapter with determination and support from his loved ones.
